Since 2011, Beantown Jewish Gardens has been offering hands-on learning experiences aimed at creating a more just food system. We have developed with the support of numerous local and national Jewish and sustainability organizations and farms. These past couple of months have been a time of introspection and assessment for the organization, and in 2020, we will be focusing our efforts on two large-scale community events, one in the spring, and one at Sukkot. This will allow us to amplify our impact and deliver high quality programming in a more scalable way.
We have grown broadly, by meeting community needs as they have arrived, in teaching, workshops, garden development, conferences, and community events. Our recent introspection and assessment led us to conclude that we could better achieve our mission by embracing a focused and mighty organizational model moving forward, a pruning process toward a main branch.
Moving forward, we will be concentrating on our highly successful community-wide events that focus on Jewish education and teaching about crucial issues for our times- working for a more just and sustainable food system. Our events provide opportunities for community members to learn from and network with others of similar values, be inspired by new ideas, as well as leverage the resources of our community in a hands-on way.
We look forward to continuing our work with existing partners, colleagues, and individuals, locally and nationally. We are often inspired by their dedication, and anticipate continued opportunities to further a strong local network to grow upon.
This shift in our organizational model provides opportunities and challenges. Now more than ever, we need your financial support as we invest in building a sustainable future.
Meanwhile, we are hosting our annual Sukkot on the Farm event on Sunday October 20th at Codman Community Farms in Lincoln, and shortly announcing the details of our spring 2020 event…. Stay tuned for details on joining the planning team or sponsorship options.
